Which private jet fits your trip?

Five categories cover most trips. Compare seats, range and typical hourly rates, or use the quick guide to find a starting point.

Seaplane pulled up on a white-sand island beach

Turboprop

  • 6–9 seats
  • ≈ 1,800 nm

Slower than a jet but at home on short runways, which makes it the practical pick for islands and small regional airports. On hops under 90 minutes the time difference is small.

$1,800–3,200 per hourEstimate, US charter, before tax and fees

Business jet parked on the ramp at dusk

Light jet

  • 6–8 seats
  • 2,000 nm+

The usual choice for two- to three-hour trips with up to six passengers and soft bags, such as Teterboro to Palm Beach.

$3,500–5,500 per hourEstimate, US charter, before tax and fees

Jet approaching to land through pink evening clouds

Midsize jet

  • 7–9 seats
  • ≈ 2,100 nm

A taller cabin and more room for bags on two- to four-hour trips. A comfortable step up for groups of six to eight.

$4,500–7,000 per hourEstimate, US charter, before tax and fees

Dining table set with salad and champagne beside a cabin window

Super-midsize

  • 8–10 seats
  • 3,200–4,000 nm

Coast to coast nonstop for most US routes, with a six-foot cabin, a flat floor and space for skis and golf bags.

$6,500–9,500 per hourEstimate, US charter, before tax and fees

Spacious private jet cabin with club seats

Large cabin

  • 10–16 seats
  • 4,000–4,300 nm

Room for ten or more, several seating zones and often a full galley. The natural choice for transatlantic trips.

$8,500–13,000 per hourEstimate, US charter, before tax and fees

Hourly figures are estimates before the 7.5% federal excise tax and fees. Range is a typical maximum; passengers, bags and winds reduce it.
